Dr. Wagner is a Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of British Columbia, and a member of the Institute for Computational Intelligence and Cognitive Systems (ICICS). He is a member of BC-NET’s Advanced Network Advisory Board and Co-founder of Scalable Analytics, a UBC spin-off company, that provides an infra-structure for computing Extreme-scale analytics on big data. In the past he has worked as a Distributed System Architect with Terabeam Networks and he has worked with local entrepreneurs and start-up companies in the Vancouver area. Alan has over 25 years experience in areas of high performance computing, networking, and parallel and distributed computing. His group is a contributor to MPICH2 and Open MPI, the two major open source implementations of MPI, and most recently has been working on an extension of MPI called fine-grain MPI.
