Jim McEwen is an Adaptive Technology Specialist at Niagara College, assisting students with disabilities by facilitating their use of technology to improve and accommodate their educational experience. He has been working 1:1 with students, recommending and training them on adaptive technology, and delivering workshops and presentations to faculty and staff on accessibility for over 20 years. McEwen is passionate about XR (extended reality) in education and is a certified Virtual Reality Educator. He believes that it can provide students with engaging and explicit learning experiences to deepen their understanding. He has co-created a virtual reality simulation that addresses inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA) and worked on the Niagara College Accessibility Hub, a website that provides resources on document and digital accessibility.
