Duncan Stewart, lead author of Deloitte’s annual TMT Predictions report since 2007, will present a tailored version of the 2024 report, with some sneak peeks of the 2025 topics. While touching on telecom advancements like 5G, 6G, Open Ran, Fixed Wireless Access, and satellite connectivity, he will also look at the emerging tech trends that drive the need for connectivity and their implications for the research, education, and innovation sector. From generative AI use cases to quantum encryption, Duncan will explore their transformative potential and how they can drive innovation and growth within the community.

1:45 – 2:30 pm | What Can AI Teach Us About What It Means to Be Human? Thriving In a World of Human-Machine Collaboration

Join Iliana Oris Valiente, Managing Director and Head of Innovation at Accenture Canada, for a keynote session that explores the transformative impact of AI on our daily lives. Drawing from her extensive experience with Fortune 500 clients and her active role in venture capital, Iliana will discuss how AI is reshaping the way we work and play, as well as the broader societal changes it brings.

In this session, Iliana will introduce Laila – her AI-powered digital human twin – and share lessons learned about what it means to be human, uncovered through building an AI. This is part of a broader trend of agentic computing and future collaborations between humans and machines, where three-quarters of workers are likely to interact with an AI agent in the near future. Iliana will also share recent trends from the Accenture Tech Vision report and provide insights on where Fortune 500 companies are focusing their AI efforts. She will delve into the economic impact of Canada fully embracing the AI opportunity, based on recent collaborative research with Microsoft, highlighting a $187 billion uplift to the Canadian economy by 2030.

Audience members will walk away with an understanding of how to embrace AI to augment their personal and professional lives, in addition to comprehending societal-level impacts. 9:05 – 9:50 am | The Power of Partnership: Exploring the Research and Education Network (REN) Landscape

An engaging and thought-provoking session, where leaders from Canada’s Research and Education Networks (REN) come together for a dynamic conversation. Moving beyond the traditional Q&A format, this panel will offer a conversational exploration of how REN partners collaborate, the successes achieved, and the challenges they face.

As a nod to the developments that are happening all around us, we will be using generative AI to both create questions pertaining to the REN discussion, and to assign the questions to speakers based on their LinkedIn profiles. Attendees will then be asked to vote on the questions that interest them the most, making the session truly dynamic and relevant to attendees’ needs.

Neuroscientist & 3-time TEDx Speaker, Sarah Baldeo, takes you on a journey of understanding the brains’ proclivity for bias, navigating power dynamics, and rebuilding a brain that embraces diversity.
